Overview

A high quality 8 day mahogany bracket clock of compact dimensions, by John Durden, 27 Fenchurch Street London.

Case

The high quality case veneered in beautifully figured fiddle back mahogany, inlaid throughout with brass stringing, with ebonised mouldings and ebonised bun feet. The elegant Chinese pagoda style top with brass inlays, surmounted by the original gilded urn finial. Cast brass silk lined fishscale frets to the sides.

Dial

The square brass dial with a finely fretted and gilded filigree mask, with a circular white enamelled dial centre, signed to the centre J Durden 27 Fenchurch Street. The whole dial surrounded by a silvered cast brass frame.

Movement

The fully restored high quality chain driven twin fusee movement of eight day duration, united by five knopped pillars, with the original anchor escapement and striking the hours and half hour on a curled blued steel gong. Heavy brass bob pendulum, with London style rating adjustment and knurled thumbscrew pendulum restraint.

The internal movement has been fully cleaned, we have retained the original lacquering and plate decoration to the movement back plate and pendulum.

Our horologist is a Fellow of the British Horological Institute (FBHI), having 35 years of full time professional engagement in the repair & restoration of clocks, watches, music boxes & barometers. He was the recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Company of Clockmakers Bronze Medal.
