A French Claude Grivolas oval cased 400 day ( 1 year wind
duration) torsion timepiece mantel clock, circa 1900.
The fine quality gilt brass oval case with rope twist
mouldings and reeded columns inset with four bevelled curved
glass panels, opening front and rear door.
The 4" floral painted porcelain dial fronting a fully
restored spring driven movement of 400 day duration signed
to the backplate and numbered, signed to the base of the
pendulum with corresponding numbering to the movement.
Claude Grivolas was an engineer-Manufacturer-and
Industrialist-Investor. He is reported
to be the only known manufacturer of torsion suspension 400
day clocks based in France and that these pieces were
usually of high quality.
This example is in fine original condition with the movement
fully restored by our FBHI and Worshipful Clockmakers
Company awarded horologist.
