A fine quality figured mahogany 8
day longcase clock by James Allen of Kilmarnock, circa
1800. The high quality case constructed of figured
mahogany in the classic western Scottish style case, with
a flat topped hood with moulded cornice and rope twist
free standing columns, silk lined sound frets to the
sides. The shaped top trunk door flanked by quarter turned
rope twist columns with original lock and key. The figured
mahogany box base surmounted on shaped bracket feet.
The arched painted dial with Roman chapter ring surrounded by finely painted flowers and strawberries, signed to the dial centre Jas Allen Kilmarnock, with further subsidiary seconds and calendar zones to the dial centre. The dial arch with revolving moonphases, rural scene and seascape.
The fine quality fully restored movement of eight day duration united by four knopped pillars, with anchor escapement and striking the hours on a single bell.
