Price: £17,500

Height: 7ft 3" Depth: 9" Width: 18"

An exceptional George I period walnut longcase clock of month duration by Peter King, Long Acre, London, circa 1710 - 1720.

The walnut case is of the finest proportions, made using beautifully figured veneers of remarkable quality.

The pull forward hood is flanked by turned columns with brass capitals and has finely carved walnut sound frets to the front and sides.

Within the long moulded trunk door there is a central gilt brass lenticle.

The square brass dial is of elegant design with crown and cherub spandrel mounts in the corners and a matted and engraved dial centre, with calendar and subsidiary seconds zone.

The silvered chapter ring has bold Roman numerals and an outer minute circle with Arabic numerals at five minute intervals.

The winding holes are ringed and there is an aperture above VI indicating the day of the month, surrounded by engraving. The dial is also engraved on the back plate at III, VI, IX and XII.

The blued steel hands are finely wrought and pierced.

The substantial, 5 pillar, month duration movement is of the finest quality, striking the hours on a single bell, employing a count-wheel striking mechanism mounted on the outside of the backplate.

The movement is complete with it original brass cased weights and pendulum.
