A fine quality George III mahogany inverted bell top bracket clock by Richard Grove, London, c.1770, with strike silent facility and the original verge escapement.
Case
The classic style Geo III period mahogany bell top case standing on brass ogee feet with four cast brass pineapple finials and a single facetted brass carrying handle to the bell top. Glazed movement viewing windows to the case sides and opening front and rear glazed doors with the original locks.
Dial
The beautiful seven-inch brass dial with silvered and engraved chapter ring, matted centre with a recessed silvered signature plate signed Rich Grove London, with a recessed date aperture above the VI and subsidiary dial to the the arch for the strike/silent.
Movement
The high quality fully restored, twin fusee movement of eight day duration, united by five knopped pillars, with the original verge escapement and striking the hours on a single bell, with strike silent facility.
The movement backplate beautifully engraved with floral swags and chinoiserie decoration.
Hands
The original finely wrought blued steel hand.
An elegant, well proportioned original clock of excellent colour and patination, with the original verge escapement.
