A fine quality George III flame mahogany 8 day longcase clock by Handley & Moore of London for Fowler of Newington Causeway, numbered 3674.

Case

The high quality “Gentleman’s Library” style case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany of excellent colour and patination.

The break arch hood, below canted stop fluted corners with brass reeding. The convex circular glass bound with a cast brass bezel. The hood sides with circular glass viewing windows.

The moulded edge long trunk door with choice curled mahogany veneers, flanked by canted corners with brass reeded inlay.

The moulded edge panel to the base with London style double plinth.

Dial

The original ground 12″ convex circular white enamelled dial signed Fowler, Newington Causeway.

Movement

The fully restored high quality movement of eight day duration, the shaped plates united by five knopped pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a single bell. Stamped to the frontplate Handley and Moore, numbered 3674.

Weights and pendulum

Brass cased weights and steel strap heavy brass bob pendulum with knurled and engraved calibrated rating nut, with pointer.

Fine quality original blued steel hands.
