A fine quality flame mahogany 8 Day floorstanding, observatory dial layout, regulator longcase clock c.1870.
Case
The high quality case veneered in beautifully figured flame mahogany of excellent colour and patination.
The arched top jewellers shop style case with glazed and ogee moulded trunk door with moulded glazed panels to the case sides.
Finely carved scrolled leaf decorative work beneath the dial.
The finely figured flame mahogany box base with recessed moulded panel, mounted on a plinth skirt and bun feet.
The original locks, key and hinges to the trunk door.
Movement access door to the case top, with the original lock and hinges.
The interior of the case is finely polished figured mahogany with the silvered beat scale.
Dial
The circular engraved silvered brass dial with outer minute track and subsidiary dials for the hours and seconds, Observatory dial layout, surrounded by a silvered brass sighting ring.
Signed to the centre for the jewellers shop Brewer of Hoylake, most probably a London manufactured clock based on the overall quality.
Movement
The substantial fully restored movement of eight day duration, with thick shaped plates united by four large turned pillars.
Fine 6 spoke wheel work and high count pinions throughout, Harrison’s maintaining power, jewelled deadbeat escapement.
The clock is a superb timekeeper, as would be expected for a clock of this quality.
Weights and pendulum
Polished brass cased cylindrical weight with ornate fretted and spoked pulley.
The polished steel and brass frame pendulum with mercury filled glass jar compensation, with engraved and calibrated rating nut with blued steel pointer.
Silvered and engraved beat scale.
Hands
Blued steel hands.
