A fine example of a late 19th century French tortoise
shell and cut brass inlaid Boulle mantel clock in the
Louis XV style.
The fine quality Boulle work of black shell veneer
delicately inlaid with shaped cut brass and mounted with
beautifully cast original gilded ormolu mounts (fine
gilded bronze).
The stylish Rococo shape case with locking glazed door
(original lock and key) revealing the original gilded
sunburst pendulum. The interior also decorated with Boulle
work to the inside of the rear door and a Trompe-l'oeil
effect to the floor. The top surmounted with a beautifully
modelled figure of Pheme, the Greek goddess of fame with
her trumpet.
The decorative pressed gilt dial with 12 individual
enamel cartouches with blue Roman numerals and further
outer Arabic numbered cartouches
The fully restored eight day French movement by Japy
Freres of Paris is of the highest quality, being the large
square plated version of the Pendule de Paris movement,
striking the hours and half hour on a curled blued steel
gong of excellent tone. Movement stamped and numbered.

A beautiful quality clock of impressive proportions
with the brass inlay and shell veneer in excellent
condition and the ormolu mounts retaining their original
gilding.
The movement fully serviced by our horologist who is a
Fellow of the British Horological Institute and
recipient of the 1977 Worshipful Clockmakers Company
bronze medal.
