The high quality case veneered in beautifully figured walnut, with a solid oak carcass. The unusual pagoda topped hood with the three original cast brass finials, below canted stop fluted corners. The hood sides with glazed viewing windows. The razor edge moulded long trunk door with finely patinated veneers. Raised panel to the base with London style double plinth. The finish and colour of the case is superb being in fine original condition, with wonderful patination.
The 12" square brass dial with separate silvered brass chapter ring, matted centre, subsidiary sunken seconds ring, square date aperture and signed to the centre on a silvered cartouche for William Allam London. Finely cast brass spandrels to the corners with the original gilding.
The high quality movement is of eight day duration, the plates united by five knopped pillars, anchor escapement and strikes the hours on a single bell. The movement is of exceptional quality and made to a very high level with details and features only used by the best makers of the period.
